I wrote in my last post how I took my grandma on a NYC double decker bus tour. Our tickets included the Uptown Loop, Downtown Loop, Brooklyn Loop, Bronx Loop, and Nighttime Tour. We obviously couldn’t do all of them in one day, but we decided to do both the Uptown and Downtown loop since each one was only a couple of hours.
The Downtown Loop Starts in Times Square. Now, normally I avoid Times Square like the plague. It is just so busy that it is actually faster to walk an avenue block out of the way to avoid the tourist craziness.
But since I was with my grandma, I decided to put on my patient pants and we went to the start of the Downtown Loop tour. Luckily, we didn’t have to wait long – a few minutes later we were on top of the bus looking down on all the craziness.
The downtown loop took us by a lot of famous sights in the city:

The Empire State Building

The Brooklyn Bridge

The Wall Street Bull (officially known as the Charging Bull)
For some reason the Downtown Loop also went by Radio City Music Hall on its way back:
And here are just a couple more shots that I really liked:
Looking at the pictures now, it is actually nice to have seen some of these sights from the bus, such as Time Square, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Wall Street Bull, without having to push through the crowds.
I would still recommend taking a walk down the Brooklyn Bridge and going to the Brooklyn Bridge Park to see the views of the city from the Bridge and from across the river.
My grandma and I both had a really good time on the bus tour, and I’m really glad I got to take her out for the day!
Have you ever been on a bus tour when you traveled? Did you like it?
Loved the tour…as a New Yorker, I’ve always meant to try one, but never have!
One note: the church you see when you get out of the PATH station is actually the Jefferson Market branch of the New York Public Library. It was originally built as a courhouse, and was nearly torn down in the 1960s until it was saved to be a library!
Well if anyone you know visiting NY ever asks you to go on this tour with them, it’s really not so bad! And keep in mind that NY/NJ/CT residents get 2-for-1 tickets from this company. It’s not advertised in big font, but it’s definitely on their website.
That’s so interesting about that church building, I had no idea they turned it into a library. Crazy how many things we walk by every day but don’t know anything about their history. Thanks for sharing!
